Synopsis
What begins as a historical look back through the ages to witchcraft in the 17th-century New England becomes an inventive and absolutely petrifying supernatural horror tale of bloodthirsty murders by the living dead. Way back in 1962, Elizabeth Selwyn was burned at the stake in the town of Whitewood, Massachusetts. She had been convicted of being a witch. As the flames engulfed her wicked body, her accused consort Jethro Keene called for Lucifer to help her. These two sinners have made a pact with the devil that will leave a curse on their town for three centuries! Cut to the present, as promising witchcraft student Nan Barlow asks Professor Driscoll(eerily played by Christopher Lee) where she can go to obtain original research for her term paper. He sends her to his hometown of Whitewood. Nan stays at the spooky Raven’s Inn, located on the site of Elizabeth Selwyn’s burning. The decrepit hotel is inhabited by an eccentric woman named Mrs. Newless and her mute slave Lottie, and guests who only come out at night. Nan hears mysterious chanting coming from beneath the floor of her room. Later on, she finds a dead bird and a sprig of woodbine, which are signs of witches. Soon she begins to explore places where no God-fearing person should go. What she finds is certain to send shivers up your spine! 76 minutes
